Yabloko
representatives advocate restoration of Russia’s delegation
rights in PACE
Sergei Ivanenko advocated the restoration of the
Russian delegation's rights in PACE at a meeting of
the Parliamentary Assembly on June 29, 2000. He stressed
that he had come to speak at the PACE session on behalf
of Yabloko, which obtained the votes of 5 mln Russia’s
citizens in recent elections.

the choice of residence by the Representative of the
President in the North-West district is provocative
The deputy from the Yabloko faction and Chairman
of the regional branch of Yabloko, Alexander Shishlov,
called the choice of residence by the plenipotentiary
Representative of the President in the North-West
district Vladimir Cherkesov "provocative and disrespectful"
towards the citizens of St.Petersburg.

Yavlinsky to meet the heads of the largest factions
of the German parliament
On June 27-28 the leader of the Yabloko Association
will meet the heads of the following parliamentary
factions of the German parliament: Chairman of the
bloc “The Union of Christian democrats and Christian
Social Union" (UDU-CSU) Friedrich Mertz, Deputy Chairman
of the “Social-Democratic Party of Germany” faction
Gerhard Ehrler, Chairman of the “Free Democrats” faction
Wolfgang Gerhardt and with members of this faction.

Yabloko
will support the law “On the Procedure Governing the
Formation of the Federation Council” provided that
the amendments to democratise the procedure are adopted
The Yabloko faction will support the law “On the
Procedure for Forming the Federation Council” providing
that the amendments targeted at its democratisation
are adopted. Such a decision was taken at a meeting
of the faction on June 22, 2000.
Yabloko
will vote for the value-added tax provided amendments
of the Budget Committee are taken into account.
The Yabloko faction will support in the second reading
the draft of Part 2 of the Tax Code on VAT, provided
that the amendments approved by the Budget Committee
are considered.
Yabloko:
constructive dialogue with PACE offers the best protection
of Russia’s interests
The Yabloko association sent deputies of the State
Duma Sergei Ivanenko and Alexander Shishlov to the
regular meeting of PACE and financed this trip.
Such a decision was taken by the leadership of the
Association on June 22, 2000, after the delegation
of the Federation Assembly of Russia refused to participate
in its regular session, due to open on June 26.

Shishlov criticises the refusal of the Russian delegation
to participate in the PACE session
The deputy of the State Duma from the Yabloko faction
Alexandr Shishlov said that the refusal of the delegation
of the Federal Assembly of Russia to participate in
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
(PACE) session, which will open in Strasbourg on June
26, is a “political error”.

Vladimir
Lukin: Russia and Ukraine should simultaneously seek
further integration with Europe
Deputy Speaker of the Duma Vladimir Lukin (the Yabloko
faction) said that Russia and Ukraine should “simultaneously”
seek further integration with Europe. He spoke in
favour of the creation of a joint Russian-Ukrainian
commission to develop a common position on integration
with the EC.
Yabloko
and the Union of Right-Wing Forces (SPS) sign agreement
on measures to create a coalition of the two political
organisations
On June 21, 2000 an agreement “On measures to create
a coalition of the two political organisations Yabloko
and the Union of Right-Wing Forces” was signed by
the deputies of the State Duma Vladimir Lukin (Yabloko)
and Irina Khakamada (SPS).

Yavlinsky, Evgeni Primakov and Boris Nemtsov to call
on the President of Belarus to guarantee democratic
elections
The leaders of three factions of the Duma, Yabloko,
“Fatherland-All Russia”(OVR) and the “Union of Right-Wing
Forces” (SPS) Grigory Yavlinsky, Evgeni Primakov and
Boris Nemtsov, are going to ask the President of Belarus
to guarantee that the parliamentary elections to be
held in Belarus in October 2000 will be democratic.

draft law on the formation of the Federation Council
The Coordination Council of Yabloko and the Union
of Right-Wing Forces (SPS)has adopted a decision to
vote together on amendments to the draft law on the
new procedure for forming the Federation Council.

It is too early to introduce 12-year school education
system
"Yabloko thinks that the idea of switching to a 12-year
school education timetable promising.
However, we oppose the active promotion of this
issue before resolving first and foremost a whole
range of education and social problems.

The signing of a protocol on a coalition between
the SPS and Yabloko may take place any minute, said
Yabloko-s leader Grigory Yavlinsky in an interview

Yavlinsky: Europe displays interest in the joint creation
with Russia of the European non-strategic anti-missile
defence system
Europe has demonstrated interest in the creation
jointly with Russia of the European non-strategic
anti-missile defence system.
This declaration was made by Yabloko leader Grigory
Yavlinsky after the meeting with the Prime Minister
of Sweden Goran Persson and Minister of Defence Bjorn
von Sudow on June 15, 2000.

The leader of the Yabloko party, Grigory Yavlinsky,
expressed his conviction that the arrest of the head

On June 14, 2000 a meeting was held between the leaders
of three factions of the State Duma - the Yabloko,
SPS and OVR factions - to discuss the arrest of Vladimir
Gusinsky (Ed. Head of a major independent media
holding).

Lukin supports the appointment of Akhmad Kadyrov as
Head of the Administration of Chechnya
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, Vladimir Lukin,
(the Yabloko faction) supports the appointment of
Mufti Akhmad Kadyrov as Head of the Administration
of Chechnya. This statement was made by Vladimir Lukin
late on June 12, 2000 in an interview with the press
in St.Petersburg: he had come to the city to participate
in the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly
of the CIS.
Heads
of four deputies’ associations of the State Duma call
for immediate release of Vladimir Gusinsky from prison
On June 14, 2000, the leaders of four deputies’ associations
of the State Duma made a joint statement on the need
“to urgently accept the proposals of a number of well-known
Russian politicians and release Vladimir Gusinsky
under their personal guarantees”.

Ivanenko: a law on a state of emergency should be
adopted to regulate the situation in Chechnya
The decision of President Putin to establish a provisional
administration in Chechnya was mandatory. Today there
are no other options, said the First Deputy Head of

approves of the President Putin-s proposal to the
USA on the joint creation of an anti-missile defence
system.

Lukin: the creation of a single anti-missile defence
system jointly with the five nuclear superpowers would
be the best solution
Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Vladimir Lukin (from
the Yabloko faction) thinks that the best solution
would be to begin negotiations between the five nuclear
superpowers v the USA, Russia, France, Great Britain
and China.
