The adventures of the lost “foreign agent signs” in the Pskov region continue. The major case investigator of the Investigative Committee Department for the Pskov region, Andrei Semyonov, invited me to a meeting and issued a writ this morning to bring me in as an accused in a case of alleged “failure to perform duties of a foreign agent”. Thus, my status has changed. The Investigative Committee hastened to [publicly] report this, so I will make a commentary.

Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova were shot by neo-Nazis from the Combat Organization of Russian Nationalists on 19 January, 2009.

We are talking about 76-year-old Elizaveta Mikhailova, whose parents were repressed and expelled from Moscow during Joseph Stalin’s Great Terror.

Relatives of people serving sentences in penal colony No. 6 near Sebezh, the Pskov region, contacted Artur Gaiduk, MP of the Pskov Regional Assembly from Yabloko. They complained about the unfair wages of their relatives. After all deductions, only 600-900 roubles are credited to the convicts’ accounts for a month of hard physical labour.

Yabloko in Tatarstan sent a proposal to the Executive Committee of Kazan to launch new bus routes in the Mamadyshsky tract area. The letter from Yabloko, addressed to the head of the Executive Committee Rustem Gafarov, contains over 4,700 signatures of Kazan residents advocating improvement of the transport accessibility of the residential complexes Vesna, Vesna-2, Svetlaya Dolina, Green and Leto.

The concept Catch-Sterilisation-Vaccination-Return imply no killing of dogs whose reaction to stress may be subjectively assessed as “unmotivated aggression” and, thus, the authorities allow for killing of such dogs.

The Chairman of the Transbaikal regional branch of the Yabloko party, Viktor Kurochkin, spoke at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly of the Zabaikalsky Krai (Transbaikal Territory) on 20 December. In his speech, he noted that many specific features of the Stalinist era have returned to modern Russian reality.
Kurochkin emphasised that in today’s Russia a real criminal penalty can again be given for a word or a public statement – in accordance with the amendments to the criminal and administrative legislation adopted in 2022. At the same time, the Constitution guarantees the right to freely discuss any issues, including the most pressing ones for society, but this fundamental law often does not function.

The corresponding appeal to the President of Russia was sent by Nikolai Rybakov, Chairman of the Yabloko party, referring to the Federal Law No. 68-FZ “On the Protection of the Population and Territories from Emergencies of Natural and Man-Made Nature” dated 21.12.1994.
“According to the law, it must be introduced in situations where there is damage to human health or the environment, significant material losses and disruption of living conditions in a certain territory as a result of a environmetal disaster. Obviously, such damage exists in this situation,” Rybakov emphasised.
The party leader also demanded that federal funds and forces, including military personnel, be involved to quickly eliminate the disaster and ensure the safety of people and nature.

Nina Khrushcheva spoke about her new book “Nikita Khrushchev. A Leader Outside the System”, and answered questions from participants about the personality of the Soviet leader and the years of the Thaw, which he largely personified. In the Novgorod region, unidentified persons destroyed four memorials at the burial sites of prisoners of war from the Second World War. In the village of Yogla and in the city of Borovichi (in Bobrovy Gory, Ust-Brynkino, and the area of Lake Kryukovo) unidentified persons smashed the monuments, cut down the crosses and vandalized the basements of the monuments. Novgorod Yabloko appealed to the police and the Investigative Committee.

Yabloko received a response from the Moscow Department of Culture to the appeal by the Deputy Chairman of Yabloko Maxim Kruglov about the reasons for the closure of the GULAG History Museum. The Moscow Mayor’s Office listed the violations discovered during the inspection of the building, and also indicated the conditions for resuming the Museum’s work.

The City Court of St. Petersburg upheld the decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court on the illegal holding of a conference of the St.Petersburg branch of VOOPIK (All-Russian Society for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments). On 29 June, 2022, with the support of the city authorities, a raider seizure of the organisation by developers and “restorers” took place. The group of plaintiffs in this case included Deputy Chairman of Yabloko Boris Vishnevsky. The interests of the plaintiffs were represented by Deputy Chairman of the St.Petersburg branch of the party, lawyer Alexander Kobrinsky. The restoring of justice took over two years.

On 15 December, the Remembrance Day of Journalists Killed in the Line of Duty, Yabloko in Tatarstan honoured the memory of journalists of the new Russia killed for their work. The event took place in front of the Idel-Press building in Kazan.
Dozens of Russian journalists have died in recent decades: Irina Slavina, Larisa Yudina, Yuri Shchekochikhin, Anna Politkovskaya, Anastasia Baburova, Orkhan Dzhemal, Mikhail Beketov, and many others. Most criminal cases involving murder has remained unsolved. Punishment of the perpetrators is a rarity, and impunity breeds new crimes. Each such murder is not only a tragedy, but also a blow to freedom of speech, which must be protected for the sake of the future of our country.
