The Russian Democratic Party "YABLOKO" appeals
to the new executive management team of NTV to abandon plans to close the
programme "Svoboda Slova".
Savik Shuster’s programme is the only remaining broadcast on air,
the last oasis of free-thinking on Russian TV. Its closure will be equivalent
to the final ousting of public politics from TV.
The Russian Democratic Party "YABLOKO" considers creeping
reduction in freedom of speech in Russia an attempt to undermine one of
the fundamental tenets of the Constitution and declares its determination
to counteract the introduction of censorship in the domestic mass media.
