Moscow. At a meeting ended on Saturday night, 3 April,
2004, the Committee 2008: Free Choice decided to join the protest action
"Civil Society -Against Police State", initiated by the YABLOKO
party, a number of remedial and ecological organizations of Russia, - journalists
were told by YABLOKO Deputy Chairman Sergei
Mitrokhin.
He also stated that the Committee-2008 had declared its backing for
marches and meetings in different regions of the country in defence of
democracy, civil rights and freedom. The meetings and marches are scheduled
for 1 May. Thus, on behalf of the Committee Viktor Shenderovich is entrusted
with delivering a speech at the meeting in Moscow.
The Committee-2008 is ready to file a collective appeal with the Supreme
Court of the Russian Federation regarding infringements disclosed during
the parliamentary election in December 2003, - said Mr. Mitrokhin.
Another participant in the meeting, YABLOKO Deputy Chairman Sergei
Ivanenko explained that the matter concerns the intention to protest
the parliamentary election results in three positions.
At the Committee-2008 meeting Ivanenko and a representative of the Union
of Right-Wing Forces Boris Nadezhdin were admitted into the committee
as voting members. Mr. Ivanenko noted that the procedure for admitting
Irina Khakamada into the Committee-2008 was initiated at Saturday's meeting.
