The
Sixth Anti-Hatred March will take place in St.Petersburg on
October 31. Its route lies from Sportivnaya metro station
to the Sakharov Square.
Initially the March was planned as tribute to academic and
human rights activist Nikolai Giryenko shot by right-wing
nationalists on June 19, 2004. Gradually the Anti-Hatred March
has been turning into the solidarity day for all people resisting
social order based on fear and hatred. Inequality of the rights
and discrimination as of social, cultural, national, ethnic,
race, religious, gender factors or sexual orientation should
be eliminated as contradicting the interests of building a
welfare state in the multicultural, multinational and multiconfessional
Russia.
Human rights organisations, democratic political parties
and movements, as well as ordinary citizens concerned with
the rise of xenophobia in the society will participate in
the March. Every year the March gathers from 500 to 1,200
participants and is the largest action in Russia devoted to
the interaction to xenophobia.
The March will be held under the slogans: “No to Xenophobia!”
and “For Russia Without Racism!”
Administration of St.Petersburg has already given its permission
to hold the March.
This year the March was initiated by the following organisations:
The African Unity,
Vikhod (the Way Out),
For Russia Without Racism,
The Women Voters League,
The Memorial human rights organisation,
Youth Group of Human Rights Activists,
People’s Democratic Union,
Oborona (Defence)
St.Petersburg Council for Protection of Human Rights,

the YABLOKO party.
The participants will gather by the Yubileiniy sports complex
at 12-30, the March will start at 13-00. A rally at the Sakharov
