The President of the RF submitted to the State Duma a proposal to appoint Vladimir Lukin as ombudsman in the RF.

According to the law "On the Ombudsman of the RF", the final decision on the appointment should be taken by the lower chamber of the Russian parliament.

Lukin noted that he had discussed this issue with the President and had given his consent.

"Vladimir Petrovich Lukin is a deserving man and a well-known politician. It is highly likely that he will be elected human rights ombudsman," said YABLOKO's leader Grigory Yavlinsky, commenting on the President's submission of a proposal to the State Duma to appoint Vladimir Lukin as ombudsman in the RF.

According to Yavlinsky, "the situation in this field is very bad and this is a hard task." If the candidacy of Lukin is supported by the Duma, YABLOKO is ready to help Vladimir Lukin in every way possible.

Deputy Head of the YABLOKO party Sergei Ivanenko noted that YABLOKO members welcomed the initiative of the President to appoint Vladimir Lukin as ombudsman of the RF. "Vladimir Petrovich Lukin is one of the founders and prominent figures of our party, and we think that he will be able to do a great deal in this important constitutional post," said Ivanenko in an interview with journalists.

Speaking about the general political position of YABLOKO, Ivanenko stressed that the party considered it "reasonable that its representatives should participate, including party leaders, in the work of the executive authorities."

At the same time, noted Ivanenko, YABLOKO considers the preservation of the party after its failure at the parliamentary elections to be the key task, in order to be able to create in future a broad democratic coalition on the basis of YABLOKO.

Vladimir Lukin was born on July 13, 1937, in the city of Omsk. His parents were repressed immediately after his birth. In 1959 he graduated from the Historical Faculty of the Lenin's State Pedagogical Institute, Moscow. Doctor in Philosophy. Proficient in English, French and Spanish. Married, with two sons and a grandson.

In 1990 Lukin was elected Deputy of the RSFSR from the "Democratic Russia" bloc. February 1992 - September 1993 - Russian Ambassador to the USA. One of the founders of the democratic party YABLOKO, deputy of the State Duma (the YABLOKO faction) of three convocations.

In the party he has the post of Deputy Head of the YABLOKO party.
