Dear
Evgeni Abramovich,
Please accept my sincere congratulations on your anniversary!
Plato did not presume that poets would exist in his ideal state. Our
state is not ideal, and Plato is dear to me, but truth is dearer still:
the poet Bunimovich should not be expelled from our state.
Of course we shall leave you here and expel someone else. It is clear
to all that everyone will benefit.
Memorials shall be well preserved, children well educated and the arts
shall not be forgotten.
Your personal contribution to poetry is wonderful and the poets you
have been bringing together to a festival for five years already will
be grateful to you all their lives.
The best Russian poets and writers personify the conscience of the nation.
We are happy that poetically you made the right political choice.
May all your life remain as intense, significant and interesting as
today.
Yours sincerely,
On behalf of the Russian Democratic Party YABLOKO
Grigory Yavlinsky
