One of the most important events of the present
parliamentary session should take place in the State Duma on the
evening on June 18. Deputies of the Duma will discuss the no-confidence
motion.
Everybody knows that the YABLOKO and SPRF faction are proposing
the no-confidence motion. Throughout the week the "friends"
of Grigory Yavlinsky
have filled the broadcasting and press by speculating on an alleged
union between YABLOKO and the communists. Previously the 'black
PR' brigade had hung up billboards on the same topic all over
Moscow.
At the same time it is obvious that there is no union at all.
Only a temporary coincidence of interests is observed. The communists
simply agreed with all YABLOKO's accusations against Kasyanov's
Cabinet. For example, they added only one paragraph to the final
text of the document prepared by the democrats about the no-confidence
vote.
It is already clear today that the Duma is unlikely to vote for
the no-confidence motion. The centrist factions will not support
this. However, according to YABLOKO's leaders, the no-confidence
motion is a good pretext to make the Cabinet answerable and make
it report to the deputies for the three years of its performance.
In addition, political scientists think that the results of the
voting (according to opinion polls, it is clear what most of the
public thinks about Kasyanov's Cabinet) will help the electorate
to ascertain who protects their interests in the Duma and who
protects the interests of someone else.
