Moscow. On August 8, 2003, Head of the election campaign
staff of the Union of Right-Wing Forces (SPS) Alfred Kokh announced to
journalists that he planned to engage in a tough struggle against YABLOKO
to grab the electorate of the former. According to YABLOKO's press service,
the right-wing forces had previously announced their intention to compete
for the electorate of United Russia, and considered Grigory
Yavlinsky as partners in the democratic movement.
Commenting on Alfred Kokh's statement, Deputy Head of the YABLOKO party Sergei
Mitrokhin noticed that the YABLOKO party did not consider the SPS
as an enemy. However, all those ordering dirty PR campaigns, even if they
are SPS members, will be unmasked.
At the same time, the political leaders of the SPS have still to comment
on Kokh's statement. That is why, noted Sergei Mitrokhin, senseless political
struggle between the two democratic parties may be avoided.
