Ekaterinburg, June 7, 2003. Friday will witness
the first stage a large-scale action by the Sverdlovsk branch of
the YABLOKO party to donate books to the libraries of rural areas
and small cities in Sverdlovsk region.
Our Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the press service of the
Sverdlovsk regional branch of YABLOKO that the final stage of the
contest for the best village library, announced by the Ministry
of Culture of Sverdlovsk Region, would take place there. The heads
of the Sverdlovsk branch of the YABLKO party Yuri Kuznetzov and
Maria Dronova will hand to the library-winner the first sets of
books. In June-July 2003 YABLOKO plans to hold a broad-scale action
to donate books to libraries.
Libraries will receive 20,000 books collected by citizens and private
organisations. The donation includes Russian and foreign classics,
popular science, children's and entertainment books.
According to the leader of the Sverdlovsk branch of YABLOKO Yuri
Kuznetzov, at present many libraries have scanty funds, and library
funds in the rural areas have not been replenished for a long time:
at the same time books remain virtually the only source of information
on the world for rural areas in Russia. "That is why the YABLOKO
party considers help to village libraries in replenishing of their
books funds be it its civil duty," stressed Kuznetzov.
