Grigory Yavlinsky
does not plan to participate in the forthcoming presidential elections,
considering them to be undemocratic. He made this statement in an interview
with Interfax on December 17, 2003.
According to Yavlinsky, "As there is no court independent of the presidential
administration, as there are no independent mass media or independent sources
of financing [of the parties], there can be no real political competition
which is the essence of any election." Yavlinsky also stressed
that in his opinion the State Duma elections held on December 7 were unfair.
He again expressed his doubts in the correctness of the vote counting
and said that the YABLOKO party may consequentlyapply to courts at different
levels.
A final decision on the participation of the party in the presidential
elections will be adopted by the congress of the Russian Democratic Party
YABLOKO which will take place next weekend.
