MOSCOW, December 7 (Itar-Tass) - United Russia party appears
to be
heading for a leading position in the State Duma of the new convocation
after the counting of 7.59 percent votes in the aftermath of Sunday
parliamentary election.
It had 36.25 percent, said Olga Ostrozhskaya, the secretary of Russia's
Central Electoral Commission.
Other leading parties and election blocks are the Liberal Democratic
Party of Russia - 15.2 percent, the Communist Party of the Russian
Federation - 12.8 percent, the Motherland block - 7.89 percent, the Russian
Democratic Party Yabloko - 4.19 percent, the Union of Rightwing Forces
- 3.4
percent, the Agrarian Party of Russia - 3.5 percent, and the block of
the
Russian Party of Pensioners and Social Justice Party -- 4.89 percent.
Central Electoral Commission officials said at the same time the
progress of vote counting from the Far East towards the European regions
of
Russia revealed a growing percentage of the ballots cast against all
candidates. By 23:00 hours Moscow time (20:00 hours GMT), it was 4.89
percent, which is more than the ballots cast for the Yabloko party and
the
Union of Right-Wing Forces. To be in the State Duma, a party or electoral
block must get more than five percent.
