Yabloko is confident that democratic forces in Russia
should consolidate and is considering a proposal to combine efforts that
came from Anatoly Chubais, one of the leaders of the Union of Right-Wing
Forces (SPS).
Yabloko deputy chairman and State Duma deputy Sergei
Mitrokhin confirmed that Yabloko had received such a letter from Chubais.
He would not disclose any further details. Mitrokhin recalled that the
two parties have been working for a long time to consolidate their activities,
primarily coordinating their positions on fundamental issues. They have
organized a joint political council and coordinated their legislative
activities, he said. He did not rule out the possibility that democratic
forces might nominate a single candidate in the forthcoming presidential
elections, recalling that SPS co- chairman Boris Nemtsov had supported
Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky
in the last presidential elections
