The Yabloko faction of the State Duma is going to initiate
an address to the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation
on repealing the law “On Citizenship in the RF”. Such
a statement, according to our Rosbalt correspondent, was made
by Deputy Head of the Yabloko faction in the State Duma Igor Artemyev
at a press conference on Monday. According to Artemyev this law
infringes human rights.
He reminded the press that Yabloko opposed the adoption of this
law, and in the second reading of the law the faction managed
to introduce an amendment that an old-age parent, whose child
is a citizen of the Russian Federation, should automatically obtain
Russian citizenship after filing a simple application. At the
same time Artemyev also informed the press about the “forgery
that took place during the third reading and the amendment was
not included into the final text of the law”.
Igor Artemyev also explained that to initiate the address [to
the Constitutional Court of the RF] the faction has to obtain
at least one-third of the Duma votes. “These signatures
can not be collected until autumn, when the deputies come back
from their holidays,” noted Artemyev.
