Vladimir Baburin: The leader of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky
arrived early in the morning today at Ostankino (Ed. the TV centre)
and said that the means chosen by Boris Jordan to resolve the
dispute around NTV were "absolutely inadmissible". He also assessed
the actions of the new heads of the NTV as a "takeover by force".
Grigory Yavlinsky: The assertion that there will be a
court ruling and not force turned out to be a lie. Now we are
witnessing this lie. The television company has been smashed to
pieces … Violence - an attempt has been made to stop the broadcasting
by force. Now there still is a possibility to talk to the viewers…
The people who did this - Jordan, Kokh, our leadership and the
government -forgot that one is respected for strength and despised
for violence. The events in NTV corridors today implies not only
humiliation for journalists, but also humiliation for the audience,
humiliation for millions of Russian citizens. This violence arouse
hatred. From now on we probably won't be able learn either about
the nuclear waste which they plan to bury in our country, or about
developments in Chechnya, or the steps that are being taken to
prevent the sinking of any more "Kursks".
We shall not learn all this from the TV anymore in the near future.
This is why deputies of the State Duma from Yabloko and other
factions have come to Ostankino today - because the situation
has gone beyond the framework of law. They did not wait for examination
in court. They waited only for the departure of the German Chancellor
Gerhard Schroder.
Vladimir Baburin: This was Grigory Yavlinsky in a special
news programme of NTV broadcast by TNT.
