Deputy Speaker of the RF State Duma, Lyubov Sliska, commenting
on yesterday’s decision of the Georgian Parliament to demand the
withdrawal of the Russian Peacemaking military contingent from
Abkhaz territory, as well as the topic of Georgia’s departure
from the CIS, expressed the opinion that “one should not be driven
by emotions and adopt hasty decisions.” According to Sliska, Georgia
will not leave the CIS.
Regarding the withdrawal of the Russian peace-makers, she said
that “the norms of international law will prevail and the Georgian
side will agree that the presence of our military in Abkhazia
is absolutely legal in accordance with accepted international
agreements.” According to the First Deputy Head of the Yabloko
faction Sergei Ivanenko, it is in the interests of both countries
“to overcome the gaps which have emerged in relationship with
Georgia recently.”
