- Renowned Russian politician Grigory Yavlinsky has been elected
as the Yabloko leader again. During a secret ballot on the night
of December 22-23, 472 delegates of the Yabloko 10th congress
supported his candidature while 33 delegates voted against him.
There were abstentions. No alternative candidatures were put forward.
On Saturday the association Yabloko was transformed into a political
party.
In the evening the congress held a long discussion on program
documents and in the final account endorsed them. The delegates
approved the Yabloko democratic manifesto, and also its program
- a weighty 200-page document.
Grigory Yavlinsky has been Yabloko's permanent leader since
1995.
