A
meeting of the Council for Consolidation of Women’s Movement
joining together a number of important interregional and nation-wide
women’s organisations took place on November 19, 2009.
The meeting discussed the events to be conducted in the short
term, where the Council and most of its members will take
part.
The most important events are as follows:
- Round table discussion in the Public Chamber devoted to
the 30th anniversary of the Convention of the Elimination
of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (November 25);
- Conference of the Orthodox Women “Women’s Mission in the
Spiritual and Moral Development of the Fatherland” with participation
of the Patriarch of Russia (December 3-4, Moscow);
- Round table “Ways Out of the Crisis” organised by the Business
Women association (December 7, Moscow);
- Round table “Legal Equality of Men and Women: Prospects
for Further Development of the Legislation” in the State Duma
Committee on Family, Women and Children (December 15);
On the initiative of the Jewish women organisation Kesher
the Council decided to join the international action “16 Days
Against Violence”.
Co-Chair of the Council Galina Mikhalyova informed the participants
that the Sector of Social Sciences and Humanities of the UNESCO
Moscow Bureau chose her the key partner on the gender equality
issues which would allow specifying UNESCO’s priorities in
Russia in this field.
