The
Russian United Democratic Party YABLOKO expresses its concern
in view of refusal of the Moscow authorities to prolong contracts
on the office premises rent with the Moscow Helsinki Group
and For the Human Rights Movement.
A strange coincidence of adopting such decisions on the two
most renowned human rights organisations that rent offices
in different places of the city is indicative of political
motivation of the city heads.
Thus, a new technology has been used against civil society.
Human rights organisations are simply ousted out of the offices
in the streets under invented pretexts.
Bureaucratic tricks in this case mean direct prohibition
on the work of human rights activists. These actions clash
the declarations of the President’s Address to the Federal
Assembly that it is necessary to support civil society.
The Russian United Democratic Party YABLOKO demands from
the Moscow authorities to change their decision or offer other
premises compensating for the cost of moving into new offices.
We demand from Moscow’s Ombudsman Alexander Muzikantsky to
immediately interfere into this situation and ensure that
human rights activists will be able to continue their work.
Sergei Mitrokhin,
Chairman of the YABLOKO party
