An action against memorizing Joseph Stalin in the interiors
of the Kurskaya metro station, Moscow, will take place on
September 16. YABLOKO’s activists will hand to all passers-by
a book “1937” published by the Memorial society in commemoration
of the victims of the Great Terror. This action will take
place in the Zemlyanoi Val street (by the metro station).
Deputy head of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO and Chair of
the Moscow City Duma Commission for Science and Education
Eugeni Bunimovich and member of the Youth Chamber at the
Moscow City Duma Alexander Gnezdilov will participate in
the action.
In the end of August YABLOKO spoke against reconstruction
of praises to Joseph Stalin initially made as part of the
decorations at construction of the station. YABLOKO demanded
from the heads of the Moscow Metro to urgently dismantle
the elements of the decorations of the station connected
with dictator’s name.
“Insult of the memory of millions of victims of Stalin’s
regime can not be justified by any restoration works at
the initial decoration of the station,” ran YABLOKO’s statement.
Free distribution of books will start by the Atrium trade
centre at 5.30 p.m.
