Leaders of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO commemorated victims of fascism

Press Release
September 14, 2009

Today on the International Memory Day of the Victims of Fascism, Deputy Chair of the Moscow branch of YABLOKO and deputy of the Moscow City Duma Eugeni Bunimovich, member of the Youth Chamber at the Moscow City Duma and member of the Regional Council of the Moscow YABLOKO Alexander Gnezdilov and number of two in YABLOKO’s list of candidates in the Western Administrative District of Moscow Shamil Amirov have laid 70 red carnations to the monument to the prisoners of concentration camps.

According to Gnezdilov, the number of flowers symbolized 70 years since the beginning of the Second World War and also that about 70 million people died in the war during 1939 – 1945.

“It is strange that Moscow does not conduct large-scale memory actions on the International Memory Day of the Victims of Fascism, as many families have their memory of the war and would like to pay their tribute to the victims,” said Eugeni Bunimovich. “My father who went through the entire war thought that fascism was defeated forever, but unfortunately I, his son, can not say so already,” he noted.

Bunimovich also said that the Memory Day coincided with the sad anniversary of the act of terror at the Kashirskoye highway in Moscow. He marked that these acts of terror represented a manifestation of fascism. “We should remember this and fight against it,” he said.
