About
300 people participated in the protest action against construction
of the so-called «people’s garages” in the Sokolinaya Gora
district, Moscow. The residents of the area whose garages
are to be pulled down so that to construct “people’s garages”
instead participated in the action.
Head of the local council Alexander Aksyonov who was there
could not answer a single question.
Deputy of the Moscow City Duma and YABLOKO’s leader Sergei
Mitrokhin told at the meeting at “ordinary Muscovites simply
do not have free $10,000 so that to pay for a parking slot
in the new parking unless they get a compensation from the
authorities for their present garages that would be pulled
down”.
Mitrokhin also read out his address to the head of the district
council Nikolai Evtikhiyev that demolition of garages without
ruling of the court is inadmissible. Mitorkhin also told that
during his meeting with Evtikhiyev the latter promised not
to build a “people’s garage” in this place. It turned out
that the local head was unaware of this decision of the superior
authority.
Mitrokhin also called the decision of the Moscow government
on construction of “people’s garages” inconsiderate. According
to Mitorkhin, “this decision stirs social tension compared
to that arising during infill development of the city”. Mitrokhin
is going to address the Moscow Mayor with a proposal to change
this project and find another solution of the problem which
would allow to avoid conflicts with the population.
