The Audit Chamber of the RF will audit the spending of budget funds and usage of state property at the Moscow State Linguistic University for the period 2002-2003. The audit was initiated by the State Duma for Education and Science. The reason for the inquiry addressed to Chairman of the Audit Chamber Sergei Stepashin concerned the application to the Committee of the students who studied in the University on the basis of budget grants. The administration of the University suddenly announced that a second and a third language in the university were supplementary and therefore, should be paid for, - Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Education and Science Alexander Shishlov (the YABLOKO faction) told journalists on June 30, 2003. Earlier on June 26, 2003, during the meeting organised by the students of the Moscow State Linguistic University and other Moscow universities the representative of the administration of the Moscow State Linguistic University announced that the decision of the Academic Board of the university (which obliged budget-subsidised students to pay for the study of a second foreign language) was cancelled. In addition six top officials of the university received administrative punishments and a special commission will investigate the case. According to Alexander Shishlov the Duma Committee on Education and Science will continue monitoring the situation in the University See also: Press Release. June 26, 2003.
