The President of the Russian Federation agreed that it is necessary to find answers to the most painful questions connected with the terrorist act in Moscow and the hostage rescue operation. Grigory Yavlinsky issued this statement to journalists on November 15, 2002. Yavlinsky also commented on the meeting of the leaders of the Duma faction with the President in the Kremlin on November 14, 2002. According to Yavlinsky, the President expressed his intention to order state officials to publicly answer all the questions connected with the events of October 23-26. The leader of YABLOKO supported the concept of developing local government discussed at the meeting, as the concept developed with the participation of representatives of the YABLOKO party complied with the basic programme principles of the party. Yavlinsky also handed to the President a package of amendments for reforms in local government and the housing and communal complex prepared by YABLOKO's experts and deputies. In a short speech the leader of YABLOKO stressed that YABLOKO considers the amendments introduced to the law "On the Mass Media" by the State Duma and approved by the Federation Council to be reactionary and dangerous. He also pointed out to the President the need to impose a Presidential veto on these amendments. See also: |
