The only result of the union between Unity and Fatherland-All Russia will be the emergence of a pro-governmental association, said the leader of Yabloko Grigory Yavlinsky.

Commenting, in an interview with the press on the congress (scheduled for July 12, 2001) which will discuss the creation of a union between Unity and Fatherland-All Russia, Yavlinsky said: "This is the kind of congress where the federal bureaucracy eats up regional bureaucracy."

He also noted that this union would not influence Yabloko in any way. According to Yavlinsky, "the main direction of the state policy conducted today by the governing Unity party is an imitation of the main democratic institutions. They will not be liquidated, it will be made easier: they will be imitated."

Yavlinsky thinks that such an "imitation wrapper" contains the authoritative-bureaucratic system inside. According to Yavlinsky, it cannot work properly, as it represents a system where "one bureaucrat controls the other one", it is, "to a large extent built on corruption and services to each other."
