Members of the Russian parliamentary delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) from the Yabloko faction plan to raise the situation around the Russian television channel NTV at the Spring session of PACE which will open in Strasbourg next week.

This information was provided by Alexander Shishlov, deputy of the State Duma from the Yabloko faction and a member of the parliamentary delegation of Russia in PACE. Shishlov stressed that Yabloko assessed Saturday's events at NTV as a "takeover of the television channel" and "completely backs the position of the journalists who valued their independence more than Gazprom's favours". According to Shishlov, the reluctance of the new leadership of NTV "to wait for a court resolution of the conflict demonstrates the falsity of their assertions about their intended desire for a civilised resolution of the conflict." Shishlov also said that Yabloko would once again initiate inclusion of the situation at NTV in the agenda of the State Duma.
