On December 13, the leaders of Yabloko and the Union of Right-Wing Forces (SPS) in the State Duma forwarded a request to President of Russia Vladimir Putin to interfere in the situation connected with the criminal prosecution of the head of the Media-Most holding Vladimir concerning Gusinsky.

The written request signed by Boris Nemtsov, Grigory Yavlinsky, Viktor Pokhmelkin, Sergei Ivanenko, Irina Khakamada, Vladimir Lukin, Boris Nadezhdin and Sergei Mitrokhin runs as follows: "We are addressing you, respected Vladimir Vladimirovich, to make an urgent request to fulfil the responsibilities of the Guarantor of the Constitution vested in you by the people of Russia. The Public Prosecutor's Office should be put in order, and those guilty of illegal actions should be severely punished. The unconscientious behaviour of the staff of the Public Prosecutor's Office discredits not only this law enforcement agency: it also discredits the whole of Russian Justice, the Russian state and you ersonally, Mr. President."

The letter to President Putin streses that: "Recent developments clearly demonstrate that the Public Prosecutor's Office of the RF is being used increasingly often as a tool of political suppression or instrument for the redistribution of property."

The authors of the letter think that " the so-called Media Most case provides a graphic example this situation".

The letter of the leaders of Yabloko and the SPS adds: "Few people in the world doubt that this chain of loud accusations conceals only one thing: the wish to install complete political control over the last national television channel independent of state bureaucracy, as well as other mass media.” Based on Interfax reports.
