The Military Board of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation
has left in force the verdict issued on December 25 2001 regarding
military journalist Grigory Pasko by the Court of the Pacific
Fleet - four years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The democratic public is familiar with all the peripeteia of
the Pasko case. It is no accident that 22,000 letters and appeals
of the citizens and public organisations of the whole world written
in defence and support of the journalist and ecologist have been
added to the case files.
In our view the decision of the Military Board cannot be regarded
as the result of an objective examination of the Pasko case by
an independent and impartial court which is guaranteed [to Pasko]
by the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
We, the participants of the All-Russia Democratic Assembly,
earnestly ask you to protest this decision and initiate an examination
of the complaint, which will be lodged by July 20, of representatives
of the defence of Grigory Pasko by decision of the Military Board,
and on this basis consider the case in the Presidium of the Supreme
Court in a supervisory order.
