| The YABLOKO faction categorically opposes the draft resolution.
We consider that President Putin's political declaration, who
warned the Georgian leadership on the seriousness of the situation,
is acceptable. We think that the essence of this declaration is
to invite President of Georgia Eduard Shevarnadze to take part
in negotiations to be held in Kishinau at the beginning of October.
However, the State Duma decided to be more holier than the Pope
and has drafted a resolution that is extremely aggressive in style
and extremely dangerous from viewpoint of the development of our
relationships with Georgia.
It is obvious that the escalation in tension in Russian-Georgian
relations does not have a military solution. We know the efficiency
of bombings in the mountainous areas of Chechnya . There is no
doubt that such "activity" in Georgia will also be ineffective.
At the same time, the careless handling of such political instruments
with calls to virtually introduce economic sanctions against Georgia,
terminate its membership in the CIS, instead of signing an agreement
on friendship - all this means that we, the State Duma, provoke
tension and push the President to unconsidered acts of force.
YABLOKO categorically opposes attempts to force the President
into another military and political adventure.
