The Yabloko faction considers the annulment of the registration
of candidate Viktor Cherepkov in the gubernatorial elections of
the Maritime Territory to be the result of political pressure
on judicial bodies targeted at guaranteeing the participation
of the candidate of the federal centre in the second round.
We regard the developments in Maritime Territory as another manifestation
of the so-called “dictatorship of the law”, i.e. selective application
of legal norms in order to achieve certain political goals.
The removal of one of the main candidates for governor post from
the list of candidates right before the election made a mockery
of democratic procedures. The Yabloko faction considers it necessary
to make changes to the electoral legislation which would not allow
for such a possibility.
The Yabloko party will do all it can to consolidate opposition
to dissemination of the experience of selective application of
the law and other manifestations of “controlled democracy” in
the country.
